Going Mobile

Did you know you can now search Lexis and Westlaw from your phone/iPad?

If you are lucky enough to have an iPad, here is the WestlawNext app.

For Lexis Advance (the new Lexis platform, more on this in future posts), here is the Lexis Advance app for iPhones and iPads.

Android and other phone users, hang in there.  I suspect your app will be available soon.

An Interesting January “Holiday”

Now that some of us are back to school and work, let us look at ways in which others conclude the Winter holidays. According to Gone-ta-Pott.com, one such transitional day is Plough Sunday/Monday:

"The day traditionally saw the resumption of work after the Christmas period. In some areas, particularly in northern England and East Anglia, a plough was hauled from house to house in a procession, collecting money. They were often accompanied by musicians, an old woman or a boy dressed as an old woman, called the ‘Bessy’, and a man in the role of the ‘fool’. 'Plough Pudding' is a boiled suet pudding, containing meat and onions, it is from Norfolk and is eaten on Plough Monday."

New, Free E-Books from CALI

Just in time for Spring Semester, the folks at CALI (Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction) have announced some new free e-texts to save you some money. In addition to the Restyled Federal Rules of Evidence (subject of our December 6 post), CALI has added other new titles to its eLangdell collection of digital books for your laptop and a variety of mobile devices, including Kindle. Among the recently released titles for download are books for securities law and regulation, bankruptcy, and civil procedure, as well as a recently revised version of Peter Martin's Introduction to Basic Legal Citation. Keep your eye on CALI's eLangdell web site for more titles to come.
